A LETTER TO BABY COOP
JULY 4th, 2014
Life is great these days.
You're getting to be such a big boy, and you haven't even turned three months yet! Although that day is soon approaching; I know because I'm preparing for your three month photo shoot. The chalkboard is ready and I'm narrowing it down to two potential outfits. You're wearing 6-9 month size right now (although Baby Gap clothes are super huge so you're still in 3 month stuff there).
You're getting so much stronger with your head! We can practically hold you in a hip straddle without any support. When we hold you under your arms, your head moves around like a bobble-head toy. It's pretty cute.
I am seriously fond of spending time with you, baby Coop. You're excellent company. Our days together are something I never want to forget…so allow me to jot down a few notes:
You wake up around 6:15. Sometimes as early as 5:45, sometimes as late as 7:30. You greet me with a beaming smile when I lean over the rails of your crib, and we hang out like that for a few seconds…just so I can enjoy your little smiles. You kick your feet like you're just too darn excited to get the day started, and I pull you out.
First stop is always a diaper change (the highlight of your day, although we're not exactly sure why.) You smile the whole time you're being changed. There are belly tickles, cheek kisses, feet clapping…it's very exciting. For the next few hours, we alternate between feedings and mommy time (feeding, mommy showers, feeding, mommy puts on her makeup, feeding, mommy does her hair), and then there's one final feed before we head out for the day.
It doesn't matter whether it's the grocery store, the mall, or the Glebe to meet our friend Sarah for lunch…you love being out and about. You fall asleep listening to music in the car and wake up in a new place with a very confused look on your face. You used to sleep through the whole grocery store experience, but now you love to look around. Old ladies come up to us in the produce aisle and ask how old you are. You like the attention.
When we get home, you eat (you eat a lot, my dear baby boy), and we start thinking about taking an afternoon walk in the sunshine. Mommy makes some lunch for herself, throws in a load of laundry, and we fall asleep in the bed watching reruns of Dawson's Creek. You rarely nap in your crib during the afternoon unless you're extremely sleepy…but you fall asleep in seconds when you're curled up in mommy and daddy's room. Weezy shares your pillow and my heart melts every time.
Daddy time starts the minute your daddy walks through the door. He picks you up, plays with you, changes your diaper (your favourite!), and then we settle in for the evening. That is, of course, if it's not a baseball night! You eat from 7:30-9:15, consistently. We fill up on cheek kisses before sending you to bed for 9:30. Some days you suck on your fist for a few minutes (we can hear you all the way from our room), but most days you just drift peacefully to sleep. No fuss, no muss. You love bedtime :) And by the time my head hits the pillow a couple hours later, I am already excited for the morning.
Oh Coop, I just can't seem to get enough of you.
love,
mom
